Book Edit : Children’s Classic Hardcover Books

There is something special about a hardcover children’s book. I know many have moved on to the Kindle or may prefer to use other digital reading devices for children. For me it’s the feel of a hardcover book, the craftsmanship, the printed pages, the artful graphics and colorful images that make up a cover. It is an object of treasure and worthy of saving to read again or to pass along and share with another.

I have two adult children and many boxes in storage that contain all of their children’s books that they loved reading when they were growing up. Some of them were gifts from friends and relatives with inscriptions in the them, others frayed at the corners or have a tear or a stain here and there but all worthy of saving, in my opinion. My hope is to someday return them to my kids when they have their own children. And be able to read the wonderful stories as a grandmother.

Reading books with children is so beneficial to their lives. They learn and reflect with each story and the images spark imagination and creative thinking. The process of sharing a story or reading to a child is an incredible bonding experience.  Children who read or are read to learn to have an appreciation for the written language and grow to have better listening and reading skills.

Books make the perfect gifts, especially a classic hardcover children’s story. I like to give a book with a small inscription to welcome a newborn into the world, or give as a child’s birthday gift. When my kids were young they received books for every birthday and each Christmas.

I have put together a great list of classics and Caldecott medal children’s stories below. Most of these books have been treasured by my children.  Shop for these wonderful books right from this post. Purchase by simply clicking on the name of the book.
